BRUCE HANSEN

Meet Our Wine Maker Here at Hansen Vineyards & Winery

Bruce Hansen – Owner/Winemaker

Takes his wine VERY seriously…himself, not so much!

Bruce is originally from Michigan (you will see the Spartan flag right when you walk in the tasting room) where he began his agriculture roots with his father. After graduating high school, he joined his father in California and studied several different things at the University of Hayward in the Bay Area.

Years later, Bruce finally built his name on a prestigious pole barn construction business here on the Central Coast. When he purchased the property where the winery currently is, there were 60 acres of almond trees. In the late 1980’s/early 1990’s, Bruce converted the orchard into a vineyard, planting all of the vines personally after learning from several friends in the industry.

He built both of the homes plus the tasting room and barrel room on the property himself and eventually sold the back 30 acres of vines to his neighbor. If you’ve visited a winery or tasting room in the last 30 years in the Paso Robles area, then chances are that Bruce either built it himself or helped someone build it!

After retiring (well, slowing down we should say) from construction and real estate, Bruce decided to play around with the vines that had finally matured on his vineyard, thus producing Hansen Vineyards. He has made his name in the wine industry with his award winning, delicious line-up of Cabernet Sauvignon, although he has dabbled in a few other varietals such as Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Zinfandel.

Come in and meet this one-of-a-kind, salt of the earth, Cab loving, make you laugh, kind of guy. You never know what the visit will hold, but we guarantee it will be delicious and FUN!
